American Limb and Orthotic Center, Inc. (ALOC) has been under my ownership since August 2001. I purchased the company from Norbert Fliess, who purchased it from his father Helmuth Fliess. Helmuth Fliess started American Limb and Orthopedic Company in the Chicago region in the mid-1940s. The current staff of ALOC is the same staff that has cared for the clients at American Limb and Orthopedic Company for the past nine years. We are all Illinois Licensed Practitioners in orthotics and prosthetics with a total of forty years of experience with adult, geriatric, and pediatric clients. We are committed to providing high quality, innovative, and comprehensive orthotic and prosthetic services to local hospitals, nursing homes, and the community at large. Our focus is to consistently provide professional and patient-centered care that is accessible and affordable.
ALOC provides a full range of treatments for individuals who have suffered debilitating illnesses and injuries. Our commitment to state-of-the-art technology has kept us on the forefront of orthotic and prosthetic care. Our services are highly personalized and customized to each client’s needs. Successful treatment depends on many factors, but an important consideration is the knowledge, skill, and experience of the practitioner and the ongoing relationship that is established with the patient and the rehabilitation team.
ALOC orthotists and prosthetists work closely with the physician, physical therapist, occupational therapist, nurse, and family to ensure progress towards recovery and rehabilitation. Through thorough assessment of the client’s functional status - physical examination, medical history, and rehabilitation goals – the appropriate orthotic and/or prosthetic treatment plan can be derived to achieve the greatest level of mobility, comfort, and function possible.
ALOC maintains a fully staffed ABC accredited patient care center which serves the greater Chicago land area. ALOC also evaluates and treats clients in hospitals and other medical facilities, including physicians’ offices. Recognizing the critical nature of some situations our staff provides 24 hour emergency service to hospitals. Our office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm by appointment only, and weekend and evening hours for emergencies only.
We accept private insurance, worker’s compensation, Medicaid, Medicare, Blue Cross/Blue Shield PPO and HMO, AETNA, and various other third party payers. We are members of POINT, HOMELINK, and OPGA Billing Groups. We have access to prosthetic and orthotic assistance funds to help those in need.
